Journey through the heart of Cambodia with the Mekong Discovery Trail. Choose from our network of ecotourism adventures and taste life along the mighty Mekong River. Help lift rural people out of poverty while enjoying an unforgettable experience.

River: One of the world’s great rivers, the Mekong winds its way through
Cambodia’s historic rural heartlands and boasts an ecosystem rivalled
only by that of the Amazon. Glimpse the rare Mekong River dolphin,
watch exotic wildlife and relax on secluded sandy islands.

Life: Experience Khmer culture at its most authentic by taking part in village life.
Mingle with Buddhist monks, learn about local traditions and spend the night in
a Khmer home. Meet proud, gentle people and share their self-sufficient
    lifestyles.

Adventures: Explore some of the least-travelled parts of rural Cambodia by bike,
boat or on foot. Kayak through flooded forests, trek to lofty temples and test
your mountain-bike skills on challenging off-road terrain.

BEHIND THE TRAIL

Cambodia is rebuilding itself after 30 years of war and civil unrest and the resulting poverty. This is a safe country now. One of the priorities of the Cambodian Government is to improve the living standards of people in rural areas, some of the poorest people in the world.

These are honest, hardworking people, who live from the river, their gardens, village fields, and nearby forests. The Mekong Discovery Trail provides a development opportunity through sustainable tourism.

The Trail is funded by the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional y Desarrollo (AECID), the Royal Government of Cambodia – Ministry of Tourism, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV).
